If you're requesting SGIP for a customer, after they are converted to a Customer on Jobflo, go into the notes section and leave the following note:
“This homeowner is seeking the SGIP incentive based on the [list out the qualification, CARE plan for example]. @salessupport @projectcoordinator”
If you do not communicate this on Jobflo, do not consider SGIP being communicated to the Empower team.
SGIP Overview
| Benefit / Risk | What it means for your deals |
| Approved SGIP Developer status | Empower is an approved vendor on the SGIP developer list. |
| Up to $26.5k+ in rebates for a 5 kW PV + 10 kWh battery | Massive incentive opportunity leading to an largely reduced cost solar and backup package to CARE and FERA customers. |
| Empower handles the SGIP process | You sell—we reserve, file, and claim the incentive; we also manage DR enrollment and inspections. |
| ⚠ First‑come‑first‑served funds | Budgets can close fast; Step 6 Small Res. Storage in SoCalGas territory filled 7/18/23, for example, stranded late applicants (selfgenca.com). |
- Never pitch SGIP as a sure bet. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
Incentive Caps
A. Incentive Rates (per‑unit)
| SGIP Category | Solar PV | Battery | Core Eligibility |
| Solar & Storage Equity (opened on Jun 2nd, 2025) | $3,100 / kW | $1,100 / kWh | CARE / FERA or ≤ 80 % AMI (state‑wide, incl. POUs & CCAs) |
| Equity Resiliency | $1,000 / kWh | Meets Equity + Tier‑2/3 wildfire zone or 2 PSPS / 5 EPSS outages or Medical Baseline / well pump | |
| General Market (Small Res.) | $150 / kWh | Any IOU* residential customer |
IOU = PG&E, SCE, SoCalGas, SDG&E. CCA customers in those territories also qualify.
B. Pre‑Approved Size Limits (no extra Program Admin justification)
| SGIP Category | PV Cap | Battery Cap |
| Solar & Storage Equity | 5 kW | 15 kWh |
| Equity Resiliency | n/a | 15 kWh |
| General Market | n/a | Up to 10 kW inverter rating (≈ 15 kWh usable) |
Empower will not quote systems above these limits; oversized projects require lengthy justification and risk rebate denial.
- The 30% federal residential tax credit (25D) ended for systems placed in service after Dec 31, 2025, so it can no longer be layered on top for cash or loan customers.
