How to Get A Quote on Jobflo:
What Type of Roofs Can I Sell (Overlay, Tear Off, Partial)?
- Overlays - When there is only 1 layer of shingles on the roof, a new shingle can be installed over the existing layer.
- Tear off - Must if happen if there are 2 layers on but optional if only 1 layer.
- Partial - Just the roof section(s) where solar is being installed will be reroofed. This can be an overlay or tear off. Partial overlays are the least expensive route.
- Comp/Backfill - Empower does not allow comp/backfill.
- What is Comp/Backfill? When there is improper roof decking (space sheathing) it is added and composite shingles installed, afterward the tiles are placed back on the roof up to the solar (backfilled).

Roof Decking, Sheathing Or Sheeting?
- Roof Decking and Sheathing are the same thing and are the wood boards used directly on top of the trusses and under the shingles/tiles.
- There are 2 types of boards used plank decking or sheet decking and when you hear that you are missing sheeting its because planks are being used and have spaces (see pic) this is what needs to be filled in before solar is installed.
- If our surveyors are not granted access to the home to get in the attic we won’t be able to determine if there is sheeting and can cause issues at install
- BEST PRACTICE - Look in the attic yourself and make sure there aren’t any spaces in the decking.
Why Are There Additional Costs At Install?
- Not all roof issues can be caught until the shingles come off (some can be seen in the attic) and Dry Rot is a common issue that needs to be replaced at time of install.
- IMPORTANT - Please make sure that homeowners are aware of this and there may be some additional charges (this is common practice in the roofing industry and shows on the contract they sign. If you want to add some money to the job to help account for this so you can cover it then you’ll need to add that to the quote from solo.

Can I Go From Composite Shingle To Tile Roof?
- It is possible but does require a structural engineer to approved it due to the additional weight of the roof.
There is Composite Over A Shake Roof, Can Solar Be Installed?
- NO, a full tear off will be needed.
Can Solar Be Installed On Metal Roofing?
- Simple answer is YES, but only some types. Below are photos of examples where we CAN install on.

- DECRA metal roof (or any metal roof that has a shape of a tile needs to be replaced with comp that matches the color of the DECRA) can NOT be installed on and we WON’T do a backfill. Below is an example of a Comp/Decra roof.
- This type of roof is easily damaged and if/when we need to service the system after install we run a high risk of damaging the roof.

Can A Roof Waiver Be Used?
- No. Roof waivers are not allowed in the State of California.
