Why the Policy Exists

This policy exists to mitigate the legal risk of performing unauthorized work on non-Empower systems, especially if they are financed. This policy protects homeowners from unknowingly breaching legal contracts.

Steps:

  1. Service Visit
  2. Determine if system functionality can be restored.
  3. If yes, provide quote and schedule work upon approval.
  4. If no, the system removal process may begin.
  5. Once the system removal process has started, the project coordination team will do due diligence to ensure a system removal is possible.
  6. If not possible, the new system is disqualified for installation.
  7. If possible, the home owner will sign a waiver and release form. $275/panel fee assessed to project.
  8. System removal takes place.
  9. Required roof repairs take place. We can provide a quote for these, or the home owner can coordinate a third party.

Service Visit Policy

If a system removal is requested, Empower will require a service visit from an electrician to assess needed work/potential functionality of the existing system before authorizing system removal. If the system can be serviced to restore functionality, a quote will be provided 24-48 hours after the visit. If system functionality cannot be restored, the process for system removal can begin.

How to Get Approval on a System Removal

The project coordination team will work with the homeowner and pre-existing financiers to determine system ownership and next steps. If the system removal is possible, the home owner will be required to sign a waiver and release. The removal fee listed below will be charged and a day will be scheduled to remove the system prior to the new installation day.

Due Diligence for Previously Removed Systems

If during the process, it’s identified that the system had been removed prior to the execution of the Empower agreement, the the project coordination team will work with the homeowner and pre-existing financiers to determine system ownership and next steps. If legal concerns are identified, we will not be able to continue with their Empower project. If there are no legal concerns, the home owner will be required to sign a waiver and release and we’ll proceed with the project.

Re-Roofs After System Removal

Following a system removal, Empower requires appropriate roof repairs are made prior to the new solar installation. For tile roofs, the underlayment must be repaired. For Comp shingle roofs, a full reroof of the mounting plane is required. Shingle patches and sealings will not be accepted.
