When a customer with an existing solar system adds a new system, there are two paths
available. The preferred method is a non-export second system through HDM or Participate
Energy, which keeps the customer on their existing NEM tariff (NEM 1 or NEM 2) and preserves
their current export credits.

If a non-export configuration is not feasible, EnFin is an acceptable alternative. However, an
EnFin add-on will pull the existing system off its current NEM tariff and transition the customer to NEM 3. Under NEM 3, export credits are significantly reduced, meaning the customer must have adequate battery storage to maintain their energy savings. Without proper battery sizing, the transition will result in higher costs for the homeowner.

The battery and system sizing requirements outlined below apply to all EnFin second system
projects.

Battery Sizing Rule

Battery requirements are based on total cumulative panel count (existing panels plus new
panels combined). For every 16 panels, one Tesla Powerwall is required.

Battery sizing by cumulative panel count:
Total Panels (Cumulative) Tesla Powerwalls Required

1 to 16- 1 Powerwall
17 to 32- 2 Powerwalls
33 to 48- 3 Powerwalls
49 to 64- 4 Powerwalls

Reps should count the existing panels on the roof and add the proposed new panel count.
Once the total crosses a 16-panel threshold, an additional Powerwall is required.

⚠️ This is a cumulative count. Both the existing system and the new system panels are
combined to determine the total battery requirement.

New System Size Requirement
The new system must be at minimum the same size as the existing system (one-to-one panel
match or larger). This ensures adequate production to justify the NEM 3 transition and protects
the homeowner's energy savings.

The new system can be larger than the existing system

If the new system is smaller than the existing system, the project does not qualify for an
EnFin add-on

⚠️ EnFin does not support non-export configurations on add-on systems. This means the
existing system will be pulled off its current NEM tariff. If the new system is smaller than
the existing system, the project will be disqualified and should use HDM or Participate
Non-Export instead
